Our client’s property

Our client's property is a magnificent new house, built in a traditional block and stone style. It is sited on an elevated rural position with panoramic views of the Trossachs. The house was designed around an expansive open plan kitchen, dining and living space that runs the full width of the building.

The Brief

Having crafted a new kitchen in their previous house a number of years earlier, our clients had no hesitation in commissioning David L Douglas for this project. Our clients had been planning this development for two years and had a good idea of the type of space they wanted to create. They wanted a large open space that would form the hub of the house - a space that they could enjoy at all times of the year.

The Solution

The design and ergonomics of the space centres around the stunning rural views that can be enjoyed from both end of the house - complemented by the large glass fenestration. Our clients wanted furniture that was in keeping stylistically with a rural property but with the added benefits of a contemporary layout and detail.
The layout of the kitchen furniture works around a magnificent island with integrated functionality including: sink, tap, fridge drawers, ovens and dishwasher. The cabinetry was crafted in light oak shaker style with a traditional beaded inset frame. The worktops were made from smoked leather granite complete with 100mm upstands. The project boasted a number of bespoke aspects including: quadrant post pilasters, curved end cabinetry on island as well as bespoke breakfasting table and seating. There were also freestanding drinks cabinetry and a broom cabinet hand-made to complete the room.

The Result

Our client commented: "Having worked with David and his team on our last house, I had no doubt that they were the right people for this project. We had been planning this for a couple of years so that we would be confident in our approach. In terms of the finished kitchen dining space we are absolutely delighted."
