Our client’s property
Our client’s house is an exceptionally attractive, three storey, Georgian former manse. Internally the house is elegant with high ceilings on the principal floor and a lovely, sweeping stairway.
Our clients wanted a space that could meet their aspirations and needs. Their old kitchen was small and didn’t meet their needs from an entertaining perspective.
Having spent a lot of time researching the marketplace, including London-based companies, our clients were recommended to speak with David L Douglas by their architect. The brief was to create a classic elegant kitchen that blended traditional hand-made cabinetry with a contemporary twist.
Stylistically the clients were influenced by the Scandinavian look – fresh, uncluttered but comfortable. They didn’t want overhanging cupboards on the walls. They were to remain free to display the couple’s art.
The new kitchen design worked around an existing AGA with a perimeter format that included a substantial centre island bridging the two rooms. The cabinetry included an inset frame shaker style door with bevelled inner edge and was hand-painted in Farrow and Ball’ Black Blue. Worktops consisted of 40mm beech throughout. Random boards were selected to give an authentic look and were oiled to finish.
The island was the centre piece of the project; this was to be a functional food preparation area as well as a hub for socialising.
Other key attributes of the kitchen include a distinctive shallow larder cabinet sitting on a work top as well as an attractive angled cupboard with bespoke cornicing throughout. The project also included the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke window seat to complement the kitchen cabinetry.
Our client commented: ”We are absolutely delighted with our new kitchen. The team at David L Douglas have done a superb job in answering our brief. We wanted a functional kitchen to cook in but also a great place to hang-out with friends. Having had a clear idea in our minds as to what we were looking for we needed a company that could bring this to fruition and we found this in David L Douglas. Being a Scottish based manufacturer was a really big plus for us. We were looking at providers down south but felt that they were just too distracted from where we are and being able to get in the car and visit the designer to discuss certain details was absolutely crucial for us.”
